Greeters & Ushers

The Greeters and Ushers Ministry reflects a willingness to serve God and a commitment to Christ with a smile on your face. The ministry is one of hospitality and enhances the beauty of the liturgy by becoming an instrument through whom God may be present to those who worship.

As the first person that parishioners interact with, your warm smile is an important sign that all are welcome, accepted, and loved at St. Rita Catholic Parish.
 
Greeters’ responsibilities include:

• Checking in 15 minutes before Mass begins.
• Welcoming people with a smile as they enter the Church.
• Creating first impressions of the church community to both regularly attending parishioners and visitors.
• Providing a sense of belonging and connection to all who enter.
• Greeting people by name when possible.

Ushers’ responsibilities include:

• Checking in 15 minutes before Mass begins.
• Facilitating the seating of the people gathering for Mass.
  • Seating those who arrive later during the natural breaks in the Mass when they are less distracting to others.
  • Being attentive to the special seating needs of the less abled and the elderly.
• During Mass:
  • Taking up the collection(s) in the Church.
  • Coordinating a family or special event group to bring the gifts to the altar.
  • Assisting with the communion procession.
  • Notifying the Eucharistic Ministers of those unable to join the communion procession.
  • Maintaining a spirit of order and calm for the community throughout the liturgy.
  • Managing any emergencies.
• After Mass:
  • Offering the parish bulletin to the assembly members as they exit the church building.
  • Straightening the pews before the next Mass.

Jesus provided the example of hospitality as service at the Last Supper when he washed the feet of the Apostles. Consider that when you offer your service as an usher and/or greeter, you are responding to Christ’s example. Your ministry is act of prayer, an attempt to witness to the living Christ.
