The Narrow Way
In today’s Gospel Jesus says: “Strive to enter through the narrow gate, for many, I tell you, will attempt to enter but will not be strong enough.” In Robert Frost’s poem he wrote: “Two roads diverted in a wood, and I – I took the road less traveled by, and that has made all the difference in the world.”
As a man who chose to be a priest, I took the road less travelled, and I am so glad I did. The call of service in the priesthood, the call of surrender to Jesus, and the call to truly live what I profess has made all the difference for me. I am privileged to have been called, fortunate to have had the strength and openness to respond, and blessed to serve here at St. Rita Church.
Please, encourage others to choose this road, the road of service and ministry in the Church. It may not be one as priest, but it should always be one of service. It is vital in living our baptismal call to do more than just attending Sunday Mass. Next month we will have a Ministry Fair (September 22) which will give everyone an opportunity to become more engaged in our faith through service, education or other ministry.
May each one of us go the way of Jesus, the narrow way, but the road that makes all the difference. Peace.
