Keep Your Eyes on Jesus
The second reading from the letter to the Hebrews says: “since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witness, let us rid ourselves of every burden and sin that clings to us and persevere in running the race that lies before us while keeping our eyes on Jesus.” I love a good race, love watching one and being in one. I love to exert myself in an event and I love the great feeling that accompanies me afterward.
I also love the race that lies before me in the walk of faith. The writer to the Hebrews says keep exerting yourself for the faith and for Jesus, while always keeping focused on the Savior, Jesus Christ our Lord and God. I love Jesus and am passionate about sharing my faith. That is a big reason why I wanted to become a priest, it gave me a profound way to live and share my faith.
In today’s Gospel Jesus says: “I have come to set the earth on fire, and how I wish it were already blazing.” Jesus is referring to the fire of our faith. Fire is an important element for both warmth and light. Jesus wants us to be a passionate about our faith, alive and burning brightly to warm the lives of others. May we keep our eyes fixed on Jesus and preserve in the task of “blazing” for our God. Blessings.
