Witnesses for Jesus
In the gospel today Jesus says to his apostles: “Go into the whole world and proclaim the gospel.” Gospel means “good news” and the good news we are to proclaim is all that Jesus, God’s own Son, died to save us. “God so loved the world that he gave us his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him might have eternal life” (John 3:16). This is GOOD NEWS. Our belief in Jesus leads to eternal life. Are our lives proclaiming this belief?
The apostles were special witness because they walked with Jesus, saw him suffer, die and rise. Each of us are witnesses as well. Though we have not literally walked with Jesus, as did the apostles, we walk with Him in spirit. We have seen Him suffer in the violence of the world and in the tragedies of life. We have seen him rise in the miracle of birth, in the transformation of lives and in our gathering together in prayer. We need to be witnesses of these events. We are called to see Jesus’ dying and rising in our lives. We are called to share his hope, his life and his love. We are called to share in the mission of the first apostles, to be his witnesses and to proclaim the gospel.
After Jesus ascended to heaven every believer was left with the responsibility to continue his work, to spread his message and to minister in His name. Perhaps you can become involved in some ministry here at St. Rita Church which will help extend the Gospel message. It is important that we all become active in our Church and in our faith. Let us each proclaim the gospel by the way we live and be witnesses for Jesus. Peace.
