Bearing Good Fruit

In today’s Gospel, Jesus is speaking about blindness and good versus bad trees and fruit. His example of someone blind leading others reminds me to stay focused and centered on Jesus. As your spiritual leader, I must be careful not to get blinded by the world’s values or my own self interests, and lead you poorly. It seems when we are focused on Jesus and our lives are really centered upon Him, we bear good fruit and give better direction to others. As the season of Lent begins this Wednesday, may we make a real effort during these forty days to center ourselves on Jesus. May we work at purging any rotten fruit that exists in our lives so that only good fruit comes forth. If this is our Lenten mission, Easter will certainly be a celebration of new life.
