Flowing from prayer and fasting, almsgiving is central to how we practice Lent. We reflect on the needs of the world and how God is calling us to meet those needs through prayer. We make room for the needs of others—and for the Holy Spirit to work within us—through fasting. Through a recognition of the world’s needs and a personal commitment to act, we give alms. Alms are money or goods that are given to—or other acts of charity that are performed for—those in need. Our Catechism states that almsgiving is “a witness to fraternal charity” and “a work of justice pleasing to God.”
Join St. Rita Catholic Parish in a transformative Lenten journey with CRS Rice Bowl. It consists of a cardboard box to collect alms and a calendar that guides families through the 40 days of Lent with activities, reflections, recipes, and stories.
CRS Rice Bowls are available now; pick one up in the vestibule when you come to church. Collect your offering throughout the Lenten season, and donate your total amount by Easter Sunday. There are two ways to give:
Thanks to CRS Rice Bowl, Catholic Relief Services has implemented hunger and poverty prevention programs in the U.S. and around the world for more than 45 years. Seventy five percent of gifts support CRS’s work in more than 100 countries, while twenty five percent support our local communities in the Los Angeles Archdiocese.
