WHOM DO WE SERVE:
The Emmaus Ministry reaches out to those who, due to life circumstances, are suffering in some form or fashion and feel a sense of disconnection from their communities, especially the Church. The ministry provides a social and/or pastoral connection for individuals who would benefit from a visit or some form of contact from a fellow parishioner. In essence, it is a ministry whose sole purpose is to live out the example of Jesus in Luke 24, the road to Emmaus, where Jesus accompanies disciples and shares with them Good News and His very presence.
While the first and primary focus of this ministry is to those who are facility or homebound, its intended purpose is to our brothers and sisters who may be suffering for any number of reasons.
WHAT MIGHT WE OFFER:
Many of our brothers and sisters feel alone and separated from their communities. This ministry is meant to provide any one or all of the following aspects of accompaniment and pastoral spirituality:
We need parishioners with all kinds of gifts and talents, whether to simply lend an ear, be a friend, write encouraging words, bring the Eucharist, or simply provide a slice of your time to support another.
The only requirement is completion of the Virtus® Training/fingerprinting and a desire to bring a listening, empathetic and non-judgmental presence to those in need.
